Yes. This is a common problem. Non-breathable paint traps moisture inside stone walls, causing the paint to bubble. We will strip off the old plastic paint and apply a micro-porous (breathable) coating that allows the wall to dry out and stay healthy

We treat red sandstone with great care. We usually recommend not painting it. Instead, we clean it and apply a clear waterproof treatment. This stops the stone from absorbing water (which causes it to crumble or “spall”) while keeping that classic Dumfries look.
